Tufts Quadruple Silverplate Cruet Castor Set from the late 19th century with six glass containers for oil and vinegar, salt and pepper, and mustard and other condiments and a revolving platform. The molded containers are etched leaves and wreath-like figures, and there are impressed ovals throughout. One of the crystal stoppers is a replacement and the metal lids on the mustard and condiment holders show some wear, but the hinges are intact and work fine. There are light to moderate chips on the glass under the some of the lids, but there are no chips on otherwise visible surfaces and all lids are solidly connected to the bottles. There are a few small scrapes on the base and very mild wear on the edges. The design of the handle comes across as Art Nouveau leaning into Art Deco. Castor set measures 16" high and is marked as shown in the photo. The oil and vinegar cruets measure 8 3/4" high.
James W. Tufts manufactured silverplate in Boston under the Tufts trademark between 1875 and 1915. His Arctic Soda Fountain Company was formed in 1891. Funds from his business enabled him to found the now popular golf restort town of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
