A striking Mother of Pearl compact with six squares of MOP in each direction. The compact opens to reveal a mirrored compartment made of brass. The mirror hides and keeps intact the powder area below. There is still a powder applicator inside, although it is somewhat worn, as is the powder receptacle below. There is a dark brown residue area inside the lid which can be cleaned, as the residue moved when I scraped it with my fingernail. There is no damage in this area. The Mother of Pearl is in fairly good condition, with tiny chips on two corners and a spot in the center of the compact that strikes me as a bit of wear to the MOP. Overall in good condition considering the age of such compacts. Circa 1940s or 50s.
